Jill B. told me about these two poems her father, Chippy Armstrong, used to quote:

A man is not old when his hair turns grey
A man is not old when his teeth decay
But a man is ready for his last long sleep
When his mind makes appointments, his body can't keep.

I burn my candle at both ends
It scarce can last the night
But oh my foes and oh my friends
It makes a lovely light.
